The most likely reason is that it was plain early on that JOEY was not playing at his best.  Captain Chaos instructed his normally offensive minded forwards to take no chances and be sure to help back on Defense.  Of course they all took this very seriously and the results are shown to the right.

An ironic twist to the story is that the beneficiary of the noble sacrifice made by the forwards was none other than JOEY who, in a drunken stupor before the game, decided to take the UNDER on everyone (including himself).  We fully expect the payback to be this year when JOEY buys the beer with his winnings from last year.
