Wow. This is a sad story, but truly inspirational and
full of motivation for the Chaos hockey team.
This woman is selfless.
For those of you that don't have any idea what that means, I looked up a
couple of definitions:
1 - having little or no concern for oneself, especially with regard
to fame, position, money, etc.; unselfish.
2 - concerned more with the needs and wishes of others than with
one's own; unselfish.
3 - caring more about other people’s needs and interests than about
your own.
No doubt this is a great trait for a hockey player and we should all be
inspired by people like this. As a side note, it would be nice if
this could be passed along on the evening news so some others who watch
TV constantly could learn from it.
So, what is so
selfless about getting your finger ripped off? Why is this woman
so brave? Read the article. As she was going down the slide with
her finger ripped off, she held her hand in the air to avoid getting
blood in the water. She was clearly more concerned about the
others than she was about herself. Then she showed it to her
husband and was worried about him getting sick instead of worrying about
not having one of her fingers. Her advice is to not wear jewelry
on water slides. Note she did not complain or whine about
what happened to her. She is selfless and brave, wanting to make
sure that others don't make the same mistake and get their fingers
ripped right off.
Her final quote is
truly inspirational. "I'll have tears
once in a while and I'll wish I could get my finger back sometimes, but
I don't think I ever will." How brave. I truly
wish she could get it back too. But I have to agree and say I don't
think she ever will. In fact, I am sure that is a fact.
For those of you that don't know what a fact is, and I know you are out
there reading this, here is a definition: A thing that is known
or proved to be true.
I bet that lifeguard
who had to dive in the pool to retrieve the finger was thinking he
didn't sign up for that. But I suppose retrieving one finger is
better than retrieving a dead body.
What is a selfless
hockey player? Someone who will sacrifice for the team.

What could you do this weekend that would be selfless?
Perhaps dive in front of a slap shot and block it for Crawford.
Put your body on the line for him. Pass the puck to Pete so he can
avoid another zero on the over under. I am sure most
of you can think of many more selfless things you could do this weekend
and even in your life away from hockey. This is truly
inspirational and motivating.
