Eric Sandstrom - Toughness

A hockey player must be tough.   Da Butcha is tough.  No question about it.  In fact, the only man unquestionably tougher is Pete who recovered from knee surgery in 2002 to play and he will play again this year despite his recent near fatal collarbone break.

Dere is Da Butcha, in the hospital again with his arm hanging by a thread.   Dis is his fourth trip to the hospital in the not so recent past.  Not to mention the time the shoulder popped out in a game and Pete put it back.  Yet he keeps coming back for more.  Why?  Because he is tough.

Even the hospital nurses and doctors are amazed by his toughness.  The best example came last year when he was laying on what is likely the same bed in the same hospital.   When he was offered drugs to ease the pain enough for the shoulder to go back into place, he refused.  In fact, he insisted that the nurses should climb on top and hold him down while the doctor grabbed his arm and wrestled it back into place.  When they asked why, he had a perfect answer.  He did not say it was because he just wanted the nurses on top, instead he slyly said It was because he wanted to go to the bar and he knew he would not be able to drink and drive while on drugs.   I know this for a fact because I was there.  Unfortunately, the doctor was not a hockey player.  He was not tough, he was not strong.   He couldn't do it so Da Butcha had to accept the drugs and then go home.   But at least he tried.  This is toughness, and Da Butcha has it.  We must all have it.  Do not let injuries or pain stop you from coming to Niagara and playing.  If you do, then you are a wimp-out and will definitely miss the fun.
